I like the gift giving... great idea!

I do have a repeatable crash, though. I'm able to talk with a lot of people in my village, buy/sell, give gifts, etc. But there's one villager that, every time I encounter them, I say 'Hi there.' and the game crashes. It's the same villager that crashes me. I don't guess it matters, but just in case, their name is OdibqOSeAW. I just tried saying something other than Hi there-- I said hello this time-- and it still crashed.

Belatedly, though, I'm no longer crashing when I try to use the axe. :)

I was using an axe with 0 skill, and I'm on Windows 10. I haven't been back in (busy week) to see if it will crash again.

How do I use my equipped weapon instead of my fist? I tried clicking the weapon and then the arrow key toward my enemy, but it crashed, so I wasn't sure if that was right.

Thanks so much for the update!

Oh, excellent! Thank you so very much! The email address I lost the password for was the one that papered over the stairs, so that works out just fine! So the game only saves when you enter the dungeon? Or also when you leave the dungeon?

Thanks so much for your hard work!

Also I lost my password, so that email address can't play again. My bad!

Having now played it (and loving it), I see WASD is included by default. Yay! I did find a pretty hefty bug-- I was placing floor tiles, and wanted to place one beneath the stairs-- silly, I know... but it covered the stairs down, and I then wasn't able to use that tile anymore.

And a smaller problem (or maybe intended), I can't pick up tiles after I place them.

Thanks for all your hard work!

This was neat. Thank you!

Ooh, this is such a cool idea! I hope you do end up working on it more-- I'd be particularly interested in WASD support. Great job!

But it doesn't offer a download. There isn't one at that site at all. The only way to use it is to add the URL.

Chapbook's site says:
"Chapbook is a story format for Twine 2, which means that it plays stories created in Twine in a web browser. To use it, add this URL as a story format:

https://klembot.github.io/chapbook/use/1.0.0/format.js"

So in Tee-Wee I put that web address in for the format, on the line where you put the file name.

Then I clicked publish, and it did allow me to do that. It didn't warn me that I didn't have a format loaded.

But then when I clicked to open the file in my browser when it asked if I wanted to, it opened it in Edge or Internet Explorer (not sure which) for some reason.

It had a lot of lines like the one I pasted in my first comment, but otherwise was plaintext a bit of what I'd entered in.

Today I'm refollowing those steps so I can express it clearly, and instead of mostly readable with strange lines, in Edge it's got this a lot:

 * Copyright (c) 2014-2016, Jon Schlinkert.
 * Licensed under the MIT License.
 */var r=n(39),o=n(41),i=n(42);e.exports=function(e,t,n){return r(e)?o(i(e,t),n):o(e,t)}},function(e,t,n){"use strict";
/*!
 * isobject <https: github.com="" jonschlinkert="" isobject=""></https:>
 *

 */var r=n(40);e.exports=function(e){return null!=e&&"object"==typeof e&&!1===r(e)}},function(e,t){var n={}.toString;e.exports=Array.isArray||function(e){return"[object Array]"==n.call(e)}},function(e,t,n){"use strict";
/*!

In Chrome, though, it looks more like this:

.small-caps{text-transform:uppercase;font-size:70%;letter-spacing:.075em}#backdrop{min-height:100vh;align-items:center}#backdrop,#page{display:flex;justify-content:center}#page{flex-direction:column;width:40em;min-height:calc(100vh - 2em);max-width:calc(100vw - 2em);line-height:150%;margin:1em;padding:4em 4em 2em;position:relative}#page article{flex-grow:1;display:flex}#page article>:first-child{margin-top:0;width:100%}#page footer,#page header{display:flex}#page footer>div,#page header>div{flex-grow:1}#page footer p,#page header p{margin:.5em 0 0}#page footer .center,#page header .center{text-align:center}#page footer .right p,#page header .right p{text-align:right}#page header{margin-top:0}#page header.has-content{border-bottom:1px solid #000}#page header.has-content+article>article>div>p:first-child,#page header.has-content+article>div>p:first-child{margin-top:1em}#page footer{margin-bottom:0}#page footer.has-content{border-top:1px solid #000}#page hr{border:none}#page hr:after{content:"* \A0   * \A0   *";display:block;text-align:center}#page .error,#page .warning{font-family:-apple-system,BlinkMacSystemFont,Segoe UI,Roboto,Oxygen-Sans,Ubuntu Cantarell,Helvetica Neue,sans-serif;font-size:80%;background:#fff5f5;color:#c92a2a;padding:.5em;border-left:4px solid #ffa8a8;position:relative;margin-bottom:1em;overflow:auto}#page .error :first-child,#page .warning :first-child{margin-top:0}#page .error :last-child,#page .warning :last-child{margin-bottom:0}#page .error a,#page .warning a{color:#c92a2a}#page .warning{background:#fff9db;color:#e67700}#page .warning a{color:#e67700}#page .fork p{display:flex;flex-direction:column;width:100%}#page .fork p a{display:block;flex-grow:1;text-align:center;padding:.5em}@media screen and (max-width:768px){#page{margin:0;width:100vw;max-width:100vw;min-height:100vh;padding:1em}}#spinner{position:absolute;bottom:0;right:0;opacity:0;transition:opacity .25s ease-in-out;pointer-events:none}#spinner.visible{display:block;opacity:1}

Hi there! I started working with this today. I input text in the Start page, and added a few options, and then decided to test if it publishes properly so far. (Aka am I using the right syntax, etc.)

For format, I entered in the line from Chapbook ( https://klembot.github.io/chapbook/use/1.0.0/format.js ).

When I clicked Publish, it asked if I wanted it to open in my browser. For some reason it opened it in Edge, so I copied the local address and put it in Chrome.

In either browser, it doesn't display cleanly. I get lines like this:

</tw-passagedata><tw-passagedata pid="2" name="IF YES" tags="" position="225.0,100.0" size="100.0,100.0">Do important phone calls, errands, bureaucracy.

Have I done something wrong, or is this a bug?

Thanks!

I get the same issue Steely is having, only on Windows. Manual install via the website works fine.

Ah, cool!  Yeah, I love Nexus, but wasn't clear on where most of the Caves of Qud mods are located. Like, Rimworld has a sizable portion that are only on Steam, but probably also has a sizable portion that are only on the website. Thanks for the info! Didn't know you can add any new games you wanted to Nexus... that's cool!

I'm also very curious about this, and especially about modding support. :) Is there a website hosting most of the Steam workshop mods, or... is it really a choice between 'most/all the mods' and 'drm free'? I'm really big into mods.

I second the desire to buy it here on itch and support you more, but I'd want the heavy mod support. Does buying it on itch include a Steam key?

Just wanted to let you know that your computer's username is shown in the third picture. Not sure if that was okay with you. :)

Hi there!

Not sure if I'm supposed to reply here, or where, but I played your game-in-progress. :) I like your descriptions, and the way they engage so many senses... the feeling of being cold and wet, etc, made it seem pretty realistic! I'd really like to see more choices, though. This read more like a story than feeling interactive. There were a few choices, but they seemed cosmetic (like the choice between what to eat resulting in the same response); I'm sure choices are hard to set up though, especially in only a week. Overall? I think it was a great start!  :)

Edited to note, that I have no twine experience or anything. I just really enjoy interactive fiction. My favorite IF games are often by Adam Cadre, so you might check out his site or his info if you're wanting to play more. I don't think any of them are in Twine, but might be worth checking out, not sure.

Ah, okay, thanks for the reply!  :)

I did try to download it without the itch.io launcher. When I do, and unzip it then click the exe, it claims that windows can't access the file, and that I may not have appropriate permissions. However, I'm on the admin account. Then my anti virus (BitDefender) flagged it as potentially malicious and removed the file to Quarantine. I removed it back to the original folder, and was able to run it then. However, it was full-screen with no option to exit or play it windowed. The dot dot dot (...) did nothing when I clicked on it. I could only move within the dungeon. So I hit escape, and it closed the program. I imagine the antivirus may be something po6llnu was also dealing with as maybe that's why we couldn't run it from within itch.io's client?  Thanks for your help!  Edited to note that it still doesn't work within itch.io client, so maybe that's not why.

Hi there!  I'm on Windows 10 and trying to install the game within the itch.io launcher, and I'm having the same issue the other person was having. Sorry such a belated reply, but I've just discovered this game via an old post on PCGamer's Free Game Of The Week. Looks interesting, and hope I get to play it!  :)
